The Wellness Peer Education program provides an opportunity for students to promote healthy choices among fellow students and contribute to the well-being of the Lake Forest College community, while also gaining valuable career skills, particularly for students interested in the helping professions.
The Health and Wellness Center is offering students an opportunity to get involved with Wellness-related programs on campus:
A Wellness Peer Educator is a paid position that will require 3-6 hours per week.
- Arrange schedule to be able to attend a) training seminars at the beginning of the semester b) a Wellness Wednesday program at least one Wednesday a month and c) weekly mentorship meetings with staff members of the Health and Wellness Center.
- Allot a few hours per week to be working on researching, prepping, or presenting educational programs to the campus community or other duties to improve and maintain the effectiveness of the Wellness Peer Education program, as assigned by the Health and Wellness Center staff. These activities could include:
- Researching for upcoming programs
- Preparing marketing materials to advertise programs
- Designing social media advertisements or messages to promote health and wellness topics
- Tabling events around campus
- Speaking about various health and wellness-related topics to student organizations or groups on campus
- Display appropriate skill at public speaking by presenting programs in a professional, responsible manner
- Maintain confidentiality
- Learn foundational skills in peer education and community health promotion
- Receive mentorship and training in a particular focus area from a professional in that field
- Learn creative strategies for presenting health and wellness information and encouraging behavior that benefits personal and community well-being
- Strengthen leadership skills through initiating prevention programs and other efforts to improve the well-being of the Lake Forest College Community
- Obtain experience in planning, organizing, and presenting a variety of programs that will be applicable in many types of future employment, graduate school, or professional licensure
- Student in good standing
- Maintain a 2.5 GPA
- Willingness to commit a mixture of daytime and evening hours, as well as occasional weekend hours, for program presentations
- Comfort speaking to small and large groups of people
- Willingness to be a part of a team and work well with others
