There are multiple volunteer roles for VITA. They include greeters, tax intake, tax preparers/viewers, business administration, and marketing.
- Greeters: Meet and greet clients from the parking lot, Donnelley & Lee entrance, and exit after their appointments.
- Tax Intake: Ensure identification and perform a checklist (intake form) to make sure all documents are reviewed and completed.
- Tax Preparer: Complete tax returns (current year, amended prior year, federal, and state). The IRS requires VITA tax preparer volunteers to obtain tax and software training and be certified in three IRS exams. If you have signed up to be a tax preparer volunteer, more details will be sent to you directly via email.
- Viewer: Watch the preparer and switch with the tax preparer each hour.
- Business Administration: Develop signup sheets for community clients and international students, develop a website for tax appointment signups, and plan for any catering needs on appointment days.
- Marketing: Work on all marketing to the community, including QR code creation, mailing list, and content of marketing pieces.
Anyone from outside the College must complete a volunteer registration form.
