Assistant Professor of Economics

August 12, 2024

The Department of Economics, Business, and Finance at Lake Forest College invites applications for a tenure-track position at the assistant professor level beginning fall 2025. Successful applicants must be able to teach Intermediate Microeconomics, contribute to the department’s core and elective curriculum, and advise senior theses and independent student projects. An ability to teach education, environmental, health, public, urban, or welfare economics would be valuable but is not required. An ability to contribute to the college’s interdisciplinary programs such as African American Studies, Entrepreneurship & Innovation, Environmental Studies, First-Year Studies, International Relations, Latin American and Latinx Studies, Legal Studies, Public Policy, or Urban Studies would also be valued. The teaching load is 3-3, though the number of annual preps is usually held to four for assistant professors. A fully funded one-semester research sabbatical is available after successful completion of the third-year review. Members of the department are expected to develop a research agenda that leads to peer-reviewed publications. Mentoring students in research is expected. The position requires a PhD in economics. (ABD is acceptable if degree is conferred prior to the start of the 25-26 academic year.)

All completed applications received by December 1 will receive full consideration. A completed application includes the following: (1) cover letter that describes your motivation for applying to Lake Forest College and explains how a liberal arts environment dedicated to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging aligns with your teaching philosophy, (2) curriculum vitae, (3) teaching statement including documentation of teaching experience and effectiveness, (4) research statement, (5) original research paper, (6) unofficial graduate school transcript, and (7) three letters of reference.
