Todd Beer speaks about climate justice through a gendered lens
Associate Professor of Sociology Christopher "Todd" Beer will present his talk “Climate Justice and Health in a Gendered World: Responsibilities, Risks, and Response” in person and virtually at noon (CDT) on Tuesday, May 7.
“Climate change often seems like a global collective ‘we’ problem. However, not everyone holds the same responsibility for greenhouse gas emissions, not everyone feels equal impacts of rising temperatures, and not everyone responds to the crisis in the same way,” Beer said.
In this talk, he will explore, from a global and domestic perspective, the foundations of climate justice as a lens to think about the current causes and consequences of climate change for women and health.
“I hope you can carry this lens with you to examine the climate crises that emerge throughout your life and career. Additionally, I will introduce two frameworks that examine gendered responses that hinder the speed and magnitude of the necessary transition away from fossil fuels,” Beer said.
His talk is part of the WiSH Seminar Series at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science, 3333 N. Green Bay Road, North Chicago, Illiois. This event is open to the public in-person at the Innovation and Research Park, Room 120, or can be viewed online with advanced registration here.
