Students get career-ready with donated professional clothing
Students can collect free professional clothing at the Career Closet.
What can students do when they have a professional interview coming up, but their college wardrobes are missing professional attire? Visit the Forester Career Closet on campus, of course!
The Career Closet, which aims to equip students with professional clothing for interviews, internships, and careers, is operating again after moving to the basement of Deerpath on North Campus.
Students can find clothing, jackets, shoes, and accessories that would work in business and business-casual ensembles in the closet. Each student can take up to five items per semester.
The Career Closet has a brand-new look, with additional clothing racks as well as new shoe racks, mannequins, and even two fitting rooms. There, students can also get a professional photo taken for their LinkedIn profiles.
“The Career Closet provides an invaluable resource for students who don’t have access to, or cannot afford, professional clothing,” said Associate Director of the Career Advancement Center Danielle Kelly. “It provides a space for students to explore their burgeoning professional identity and gain confidence through clothing. We also strive to create a welcome place for non-binary and trans students to try on clothing and feel good about their appearance and expressing who they are.”
The closet is stocked with donations provided by staff, faculty, alumni, and community members.
Do you have business or business-casual clothing that you no longer need? Clothing donations can be dropped off at the CAC Main Office, Brown Hall 256, during open hours Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. We are always seeking donations of new or gently used professional clothing, especially:
- Women’s blouses, suits, and separates (especially XS/S, as well as plus-sized or XXL)
- Men’s size small suits and sport coats
- Men’s size 6-12 shoes
- Scrubs (all sizes)
