Internships with The Student Conservation Association
5:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Meet the National Program Coordinator to hear about field work internship experiences available in 2021 with a national nonprofit organization that advocates for the environment!
Lake Forest College students are invited to join special guest Chris-Michael (CM) Tena from the Student Conservation Association, who will inform students about internship programs available with the SCA, discuss how to stand out in the application, and answer any general questions about working with the SCA. This event is co-hosted by the Career Advancement Center and LEAP.
About the Speaker: Chris-Michael Tena (he/him), who usually goes by CM, is an environmentalist person of color, youth advocate, and supporter of open access to healthy recreation opportunities for all people. CM serves as the National Program Coordinator for the Inter-Mountain West Region of the United States at SCA, mentoring and managing +80 interns across the US. Prior to joining SCA, CM worked with numerous other youth development and conservation agencies (state and nonprofit), served as an AmeriCorps Volunteer in Service to America (VISTA), and has helped preserve some of the country's iconic trails as a seasonal Backcountry trailcrew member in Yosemite National Park.
About the SCA: Founded in 1957, the Student Conservation Association, Inc., is a national nonprofit organization that advocates for the environment. SCA leads the nation in providing conservation service opportunities, outdoor skills and leadership training. Every year, in all 50 states, thousands of high school, college, graduate students and others join the association to work for national parks and forests, historic and cultural resources, and urban green spaces. SCA’s mission is to build the next generation of conservation leaders and inspire lifelong stewardship of the environment and communities by engaging young people in hands-on service to the land.
