Eukaryon celebrates its eighteenth year

Eukaryon is an award-winning undergraduate research journal at Lake Forest College that publishes the very best of life science scholarship conducted by Lake Forest students.
Eukaryon celebrated the inauguration of their eighteenth volume on Tuesday, March 1 via Zoom with 75 people in attendance. The journal’s 2021-2022 theme is “Evolution.”
“It’s quite a befitting description for this edition since this year marks Eukaryon’s revitalization following many hardships from the past few years due to COVID. Similar to how a population can evolve over many generations, Eukaryon has seen many changes to its structure, membership, and editorial process over this past year as well,” said Katrina Topacio, this year’s Eukaryon editor.
Eukaryon is an award-winning undergraduate research journal at Lake Forest College that publishes the very best of life science scholarship conducted by Lake Forest students. The journal’s goal is to celebrate and highlight the academic accomplishments of students achieved within the research-rich classrooms and student-centered research labs of Lake Forest College faculty.
“Being a part of Eukaryon allows students to learn every step of the scientific publication process through hands-on experience, from the peer-review process to copy-editing and typesetting articles. They also learn leadership and collaboration skills, as Eukaryon is entirely student-run,” said Assistant Professor of Biology Flavia Barbosa, this year’s faculty advisor.
