Assistant Professor of Psychology Elayne Vollman's paper, "Worked Examples Moderate the Effect of Math Learning Anxiety on Children’s Math Learning and Engagement During the COVID-19 Pandemic," was published in the Journal of Educational Psychology.

elayn vollman“I hope that scientists and teachers alike learn about the benefits of worked examples as a means to support learning and reduce anxiety in the middle school math classroom,” Vollman said of the work. “Additionally, I hope that these stakeholders see the intervention not only as effective to supporting math learning and reducing anxiety, but also as easy to implement as an instructor.”

Vollman collaborated with Almaz Mesghina, Kelly Trezise, and Lindsey Engle Richland on the paper. The researchers examined how a pedagogical intervention, worked examples, could be used to improve math learning and reduce students' math anxiety
