College and Art Institute unite for cultural exploration
Through a partnership with the Art Institute of Chicago, the College offered free admission to students, faculty, staff, and alumni on Saturday, April 20. The event, which saw over 200 guests, was put on through a joint effort between the Center for Chicago Programs, the Office of Advancement, the Career Advancement Center, and the Department of Art.
“Chicago is an extension of our Lake Forest campus,” Jennie Larsen, Director of the Center for Chicago Programs, said. “As an Art Institute University Partner, our students enjoy free admission to what is reputably one of the best museums in the world, whether as part of a class or just for fun, 365 days a year.”
The College also offered a tour featuring faculty members from the Department of Art, including Associate Professors David Sanchez Burr and Tracy Taylor, and Assistant Professors Kimiko Matsumara and Susy Bielak. Faculty members shared how art pieces, such as Georgia O’Keeffe’s Sky Above Clouds IV, have made a direct impression on them and their work.
The faculty members “showcased their expertise and passion, speaking insightfully on various works of art throughout the museum,” Larsen said. “Tours were well-attended, and attendees expressed their appreciation for the chance to interact with our faculty and Chicago in a unique and creative way.”
Student docents Danna Blancas ’24, Brian Rivera ’26, Sebastian Ellis ’26, and Jackson Whitfield ’24 led the tours throughout the museum and engaged with attendees.
