Mapping Diversity

Academic Interests

I am an Environmental Studies, and Sociology and Anthropology double major.

Hometown

Coban, Guatemala

High School

Lester B. Pearson United World College of the Pacific

Co-curricular

I like to participate in activities related to environmental conservation and education. I have volunteered in reforestation campaigns, nursing homes, and English academies. I do art in my free time as a way to express myself. The activities I enjoy are dancing, drawing, and painting. I also like to be an active person, so I practice fencing, which has been an important part of my life since childhood.

My Dream Job

I want to work in environmental conservation and natural resource management in tropical rainforests. I also want to work in community development and teach better environmental and agricultural practices in small communities in developing countries. I want to have an impact on the development and quality of life in my home country, Guatemala.

What do you hope to learn from your Richter experience this summer?

I want my Richter Scholar Program experience to help me improve my knowledge of Anthropology and develop skills in qualitative data analysis and communication with my core working team. Overall, I want this project to help me better define my academic goals and apply my newly-acquired knowledge to my future studies and my post-college career.

I am looking forward to learning more about diversity at our college and what makes an institution welcoming for people from all sorts of backgrounds. I am delighted to be involved in a research project that advocates for change and seeks to make the campus a more inclusive space for everyone.
