Jason Palmer
Positions Held
Reporter at the Chicago Newspaper Group
Born and raised on the South Side of Chicago in the Chatham neighborhood, journalist Jason Palmer has been covering issues in his community for nearly 25 years. A graduate of Luther High School South and Richard J. Daley College, Mr. Palmer got his first taste of journalism while a student at Chicago State University where a professor suggested he begin writing for the school newspaper, TEMPO. Two years later, he left school early to start his freelance career and never looked back.
A two-time National Newspaper Publishers Association award winner for his writing and news photography, Mr. Palmer started his own news media website jcoydenreports.com during the height of the pandemic in 2020 after realizing that community news was dying and the media industry had become corrupted by partisan politics.
In that same year he created a weekly sports podcast show, “What’s Up Cuz?!” that he hosts with his biological cousin Lance Irvin. The show features primarily African American sports figures in the sports industry, whose stories are often not covered in the mainstream media.
An ally for female empowerment, Mr. Palmer has worked as a volunteer male mentor to assist domestic violence victims and is a strong proponent for self-defense and the use of force multiplying tools as an equalizer for vulnerable populations.
Mr. Palmer and his wife Charese make their home in Kenosha County, Wisconsin.
