Itxel '24, a Latin American studies and politics double major with a minor in legal studies, studied abroad in Costa Rica.

Hello, my name is Itxel Limon. I am a third year student at Lake Forest College and I decided to study in Costa Rica because as a Latin American Studies major. I thought the best idea to get the insight of my culture and the lifestyle in Latin America would be to come to Latin America abroad . I was thrilled to have landed in a program that has exceeded my perspective of the kindness of people, the richness in the culture, and the tastes of paradise in its food and its breathtaking landscapes. Costa Rica became my nourishing home when I struggled to find myself through a time when I felt lost.

As I spent time here I learned so many more things about myself and my abilities. Every aspect of life here became a reason to continue to travel and fall in love with places, people, and cultures. Every place I visit brings back beautiful memories that are too hard to describe on paper without making me shed a tear because of how much I miss it. The trip to Manuel Antonio was the most memorable one. It was the first trip we took to a program. We arrived at the location late at night because of the traffic and went straight to bed. However, I was awakened by the most beautiful sounds of wild birds and waves crashing onto each other. I was mesmerized by the beauty as I stood in front of the beautiful teal blue ocean. I stood there in gratitude. I was experiencing one of the most lively moments in my life.

I am eternally grateful for the opportunity I was given through the scholarship to be able to get the opportunity to discover such serenity. Thank you so much for considering me for the scholarship and being able to assist me with academic endeavors. Having had the opportunity to come to Costa Rica has given me a real perspective of life here and many other aspects that will help me expand my horizon while finishing up my major at Lake Forest. I spoke with local people who are lovely and welcoming. I saw many of the political challenges the country faces as well as the relationship the country has with the United States. I am so thankful to have been chosen to be a recipient of the Pavelka Scholarship and have the opportunity I am having.
