Notes from Abroad: Colette in Argentina
Colette Therieau '25, a studio art and Spanish double major, studied abroad this past semester at the Universidad del Salvador in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
One of the main reasons I chose to study in Buenos Aires was because I feel the most comfortable in a big city with lots to do, so I have been surprised to find that the most impactful parts of this semester have been out exploring the nature of Argentina. I did not come here for nature, but I feel so lucky to have been able to travel to vastly different landscapes, all entirely new to me, within the country. During this semester I was able to visit both the jungle to see the world’s largest system of waterfalls, and walk on an 18,000 year old glacier. Whether you are looking for a tropical climate, mountain town, or near arctic conditions you will be able to find it in Argentina.
I have also loved my time within the city itself as Buenos Aires is such a vibrant and accessible place. You can always find something to do, whether it be street fairs, free museums, or exciting nightlife. I am also grateful to have stayed with my host mom for the daily talks we had over dinner each night. The people have overall been friendly and welcoming, so it has been a great adjustment into the local culture and language exposure. Going into this semester, I was intimidated by the idea of taking all of my classes in Spanish, but now I know that my Spanish has improved greatly thanks to this immersive experience.
