Notes from Abroad: Abby in Scotland

Abby McKinley '25, a business major with a concentration in management, studied abroad at Edinburgh Napier University in Scotland.
My study abroad experience studying at Edinburgh Napier University in Edinburgh, Scotland has been the highlight of my time in college. It has been extremely eye-opening, and it allowed me to fully immerse myself in the Scottish culture. Experiencing a new country and way of living was an unforgettable adventure.
I was enrolled in three incredible classes in Scotland: Scottish Culture and Society, Human Resource Management, and Management of Financial Institutions. Each class deepened my knowledge about the management techniques that are used in the United Kingdom and taught me how business runs in different countries. Furthermore, I traveled to Ireland, England, France, and Italy during my stay in Scotland. My favorite memory of studying abroad was when my flat mates and I traveled to Italy for spring break and explored 5 different cities including Pisa, Rome, and Florence. We stayed for 9 days, and it was an extraordinary trip where we took cooking classes, went to the beach, and ate lots of Italian food. Another adventure that I went on was to the Isle of Skye in Scotland. The whole trip felt like I was in a fairytale because of the overwhelming beauty of the whole isle. There were many hairy coos, and we did lots and lots of hiking.
The whole program had a major positive impact on me and my outlook on different cultures and new places. The people I met, the places I explored, and the education I received made this experience one that I will never forget.
