First-Year Residential Experience

Welcome to the FOREST

Introducing the First-year Orientation and Residential Experience for Student Transformation. The FOREST at Lake Forest College aims to introduce all students to a rich and vibrant campus community.

What is the first-year residential experience?

By building small residential communities within each first-year residence hall, we are able to foster a transformational experience for first-year students.

  • Creating a strong sense of community and shared experience for all first-years on campus
  • Creating a community lounge for each wing of eighteen students, allowing the physical environment to shape academic and interpersonal behavior in positive ways
  • Training RAs to focus on first-year experiences and student needs unique to this population of students
  • Building close-knit communities of first-year students by keeping a low RA-to-student ratio

Where will I live?

First-year students will live in four residence halls located on South Campus: Roberts, Gregory, McClure, and Nollen.

Roberts, Gregory, and McClure are identical in layout and will be divided in such a way to create six distinct First-Year Communities in each hall. Each Community will house seventeen first-year students with one RA. In addition to the student rooms, each Community will have its own study room and community lounge for the residents. Nollen will house both first-year and returning students, but First-Year Communities will be assigned to their own wings of the building.
