Visiting Assistant Professor of English

Lake Forest College, Department of English and Creative Writing seeks a dynamic teacher-scholar for a Visiting Assistant Professor position specializing in African American literature to contribute to our diverse and engaged academic community. The successful candidate’s courses will include nineteenth- and twentieth-century surveys as well as seminars on special topics in African American literature. Teaching creative writing is a desirable secondary specialty; responsibility for teaching first-year composition rotates among colleagues in the English department.  

 

This position has a two-year term with the possibility of a third year, pending administrative approval. A PhD or ABD in English with a specialization in African American Literature, along with a documented history of teaching excellence, is required. MFAs in creative writing will also be considered, provided they have a strong record of teaching African American literature. Demonstrated excellence in undergraduate teaching is required, as is a commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment for students of diverse backgrounds.
