Associate Director of Classroom Technology and Media Services

The Associate Director of Classroom Technology and Media Services is responsible for designing, managing and supporting the classroom technology, audiovisual (AV) systems, and media services. This role ensures the seamless operation, maintenance, and enhancement of instructional spaces, event AV, and related technologies, and provides strategic oversight of classroom technology upgrades and media services.

The ideal candidate will bring hands-on expertise in AV technologies, live event support, classroom technology management, and instructional technology solutions. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced AV professional who wants to step into a leadership role in higher education technology services.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Classroom Technology & Media Services Management:

  • Oversee the planning, implementation, and maintenance of classroom AV technology, ensuring consistency, usability, and reliability across learning spaces.
  • Lead and manage the classroom technology refresh program, including budgeting, lifecycle planning, and vendor coordination.
  • Monitor classroom technology performance, conduct regular inspections, and implement proactive maintenance to minimize disruptions.
  • Troubleshoot hardware, software, and connectivity issues related to classroom and event technology.
  • Manage equipment inventory, budget planning, and lifecycle replacement strategies for AV and classroom technologies.
  • Evaluate, recommend, and deploy new classroom AV solutions to enhance the learning environment.
  • Coordinate with vendors for procurement, installation, and ongoing support of classroom and event technology.
  • Ensure seamless integration of classroom AV with existing IT infrastructure, working closely with ITS teams.
  • Develop and implement best practices, policies, and training programs to support faculty and staff in using classroom and media technologies effectively.
  • Manage digital signage, lecture capture, video conferencing, and other instructional AV solutions.

 

Event and Media Technology Support:

  • Oversee AV support for campus events, including high-profile lectures, meetings, hybrid events, and conferences.
  • Develop standards for event AV setup, troubleshooting, and staffing, ensuring a high-quality user experience.
  • Partner with Facilities, Events, and ITS teams to ensure successful execution of technology-supported events and support campus-wide technology initiatives and special projects.
  • Evaluate and implement new event technology solutions, such as streaming services and remote collaboration tools.
  • Work closely with the Director of Events and help coordinate with external vendors for event technology rentals and services when necessary.

 

Technical Support & Operations:

  • Direct the day-to-day operations of classroom technology and media services, responding to incidents, service requests, and faculty needs in a timely manner.
  • Supervise and mentor a team of AV/Media Technologists and student workers, ensuring high-quality support and customer service.
  • Collaborate with ITS staff to ensure network and system integration for AV and classroom technologies.
  • Supervise and mentor technical staff, including AV technicians and student employees.
  • Work closely with the Director of Academic Technology to align technology infrastructure with instructional needs.
  • Stay informed about emerging trends in AV, classroom technology, and media services to recommend and implement improvements.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, media services, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in AV technology support, classroom technology management, or instructional technology.
  • Strong knowledge of AV control systems (Crestron, Extron, or similar), digital signage, video conferencing (Microsoft Teams), and lecture capture technologies (Panopto, Canvas Studio).
  • Experience managing live events, streaming, and hybrid learning environments.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills in AV and computing hardware/software for classroom and event spaces.
  • Familiarity with IT networking as it relates to AV and classroom technology.
  • Project management and communication skills with the ability to prioritize multiple competing needs in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to train and support faculty, staff, and students in using classroom and media technologies.

 

DESIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Industry certifications such as CTS (Certified Technology Specialist) or related AV/IT credentials.
  • Certifications in Crestron, Extron, CTS, Biamp, QSC, or equivalent.
  • Experience working in a higher education AV or corporate setting.
  • Advanced understanding of networked AV solutions and enterprise-level AV system administration.

SALARY:
$80,000 - $85,000 annually. Hiring will be contingent on successful background and reference checks.
