Administrative Law Judge, Illinois Human Rights Commission

Kathleen McGee is an Administrative Law Judge for the Illinois Human Rights Commission (IHRC). The IHRC exclusively handles discrimination claims made under the Illinois Human Rights Act. Before her appointment in 2022, she worked for over 22 years in multiple capacities with the Lake County Public Defender's Office. As a public defender, she practiced in criminal court for 15 years and spent 7 years as a Guardian ad Litem in juvenile court, representing kids in abuse and neglect cases. 

Judge McGee is a mother of 4 and received her Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature from Missouri State University, with a minor in Gender Studies, and her Juris Doctorate from Loyola University Chicago School of Law. Judge McGee has been published in the Lake County Bar Association periodical, The Docket. In addition, she has presented legal education on a myriad of matters, most relating to the struggles of indigent and marginalized persons.
