People in Packets is an exhibition of recent work by the artist team Owen Mundy and Joelle Dietrick. In the Sonnenshein Gallery, Packet Switching is a series of generative animations that visualizes architecture as fragments affected by economic and communications systems. The title of the series references how digital communication breaks files into smaller manageable blocks of data called packets. Each packet is then sent through a network, taking the quickest route possible, and reassembled once they reach their destination.
Since considering architecture as data packets manipulated by larger systems, the artists are currently applying these ideas to people as data packets, hence the title of the exhibition People in Packets. New work in the Albright Gallery gives visitors a glimpse into the artists’ work mid-process with Tally, a web browser that gamifies online activity; Product Monsters, looping animations that will eventually be part of the Tally; The Speed of Thinking, a mobile game that playfully connects global trade to global warming; and Falling Containers, a generative study for The Speed of Thinking. Both games are being development during their Fulbrights to Austria, Germany, Chile and Hong Kong from 2016 to 2019.
