March 22-23: Virtual Event | March 24: Lillard Lower Level

March 22-24, join the Gorter Family Career Advancement Center for a choose-your-own career adventure extravaganza!

This event features interactive sessions to assist you as you plan a rewarding career in today’s evolving world of work. Alumni, CAC staff, and other professionals will lead casual sessions covering a variety of topics throughout the week that provide the opportunity to ask questions and get real advice you can use whether you are just getting started applying for a job or internship or are figuring out what you want to do after graduation. Did we mention you can win prizes for the sessions you attend?

Choose two or more sessions that interest you to design your own track! 

Students, please register on Handshake for each session you would like to attend. You can find registration links and session descriptions below.

Tuesday and Wednesday will feature virtual presentations, and Thursday is bringing the festival experience to campus live in Lillard Science Center's lower level! In between sessions, enjoy festival snacks, games, live raffles and giveaways, a photobooth, and more! Students can get their professional profile photo taken for LinkedIn at our Forester Career Closet pop-up as well as strike a pose with a Career-A-Palooza-themed photobooth.

TUESDAY, MARCH 22 - Virtual

  • 6p.m. CT, Virtual | Thriving in the 2022 Workplace, featuring an opening talk with Martino Moore '99Hear an opening talk from Martino Moore '99, former Philosophy major and now Executive Director at Morgan Stanley, and from a panel including recent alumni in the workforce and recruiting professionals about the skills necessary for success in today's hybrid and evolving workplace. Learn how to increase your career readiness, build the competencies employers are looking for, and showcase the value you will bring to your future employer as a liberal arts graduate. Register here.
  • 7p.m. CT, Virtual | Seen and Heard: The BIPOC Experience in the Workplace: Hear from a panel of BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) alumni professionals discussing how to navigate the internship/job search process and finding success in the workplace as a person of color. Topics will include overcoming challenges, identifying allies, and recognizing inclusive work environments. Featuring Stephanie Valtierra '08, Senior Program Coordinator, Northwestern University, Kwasi Akowuah '20, Financial Product Specialist, Morningstar and Cassia Baker '15, Associate Director of Corporate Relations, The Woodruff Arts Center. Register here.

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 23 - Virtual

  • 12p.m. Noon CT, Virtual | Presenting Your Best Self Virtually: Interviews, LinkedIn, On the Job, and More: Have your words or actions ever been misunderstood? While this can be frustrating, you can take steps to ensure that you are accurately communicating your thoughts and intentions. As we find ourselves more reliant on virtual platforms like Zoom, LinkedIn, and other social media outlets, it is important to have the skills and techniques needed to convey confidence and authority. Join Business Leader Faculty member and industry expert Janine Sergay as she shares tips on how to ensure that you are presenting your best self in a virtual hybrid landscape, including virtual interviews. Janine will provide examples of ways to improve both your written and verbal delivery in a virtual environment, warn you of common mistakes that often result in confusion, lack of clarity, and a dent in your image. She will highlight the great resignation and the implications for you and your career. Register here.

  • 6p.m. CT, Lillard 044 | Not Sure How To Get Started With Career Planning? Start Here!This session will help you get started with your career planning from square one by learning how to navigate Handshake and the top 5 CAC resources you should know! Hear from current students about their first steps with career planning and resume-building, and the resources they used to help launch them into motion. Geared toward first and second-years, but open to all! Register here.
  • 6p.m. CT, Lillard 048 | Don't Burn Out - Fire Up! How to Make Your Job Search More Manageable and FunThis interactive session will help identify the difference between healthy and unhealthy stress as well as identifying signs of burnout. Participants will walk away with specific strategies to be refreshed and fired up about school and your career search. Register here.
  • 7p.m. CT, Lillard 044 | Preparing to Launch: Internship and Job Search Strategies: This "how-to" workshop will provide specific information and resources that you can use as a foundation for your job or internship search. The session will cover common entry-level opportunities, search strategies (and how to network into a job), and the interview process. You will also learn how to find positions on Handshake with employer connections that are specifically seeking Lake Forest College applicants, where your application has a higher chance of standing out.
