Professor of Religion Ben Zeller attended the American Academy of Religion Annual Meeting in San Antonio, Texas, and presented a paper on a new religious movement.

Zeller discussed his ongoing research on the new religious movement Unicult, building on work he conducted with Grace Indelli ’22, when she was a student, and Melina Pineda Aguilar ’25, when she participated in the College's signature Richter Scholar Program.

At the conference, Zeller also met with representatives of the University of Pennsylvania Press, publisher of Nova Religio: The Journal of Alternative and Emergent Religions. Zeller serves as co-general editor of Nova Religio, and works with religion major Emma Zagaiski ’24 as editorial assistant.

Drawing nearly 10,000 attendees, the annual meeting, held November 18–21, is the world’s largest gathering of scholars interested in the study of religion. It is hosted by the American Academy of Religion and the Society of Biblical Literature.
