Assistant Professor of Religion Anya Golovkova has been elected a co-chair of the Tantric Studies Unit of the American Academy of Religion (AAR).
The AAR is the largest scholarly society dedicated to the academic study of religion, with more than 8,000 members around the world. The AAR’s mission is to foster excellence in the academic study of religion and enhance the public understanding of religion.
Being elected a unit’s chair signifies that the scholar has been recognized as the leader in their field, and has positively contributed to mentoring other scholars and promoting new directions in the study of religion. Golovkova has been a member of the Steering Committee for the Tantric Studies Unit at the AAR since 2018 and will serve as the Unit’s Co-Chair for the next three years.
Program unit chairs provide the leadership needed to conduct the AAR’s Annual Meeting, organizing program unit sessions, reporting on the unit’s activities, and seeking renewal, which includes a rigorous review process.
The AAR relies on the dedication, generosity, and commitment of its Chairs to fulfill its mission to promote excellence in the scholarly study of religion.
