Notes from Abroad: Brooke in London
Brooke Challe '25, a Neuroscience and Psychology double major, studied at the University of Roehampton
Studying in London has been an amazing experience. One of my favorite aspects of my program was the opportunity to meet people from around the world. This university is very diverse with students coming from all around the world, which makes for an incredible learning experience. Every day, I get to engage with classmates who bring unique perspectives, experiences, and cultural backgrounds into the classroom. This has not only allowed me to learn about the culture of the country I am studying in, but also gain insights from people who grew up in different places. It has been a wonderful journey of connection and learning.
Adjusting to a new culture was both challenging and rewarding. At first, it was an adjustment to navigate different customs, but over time, it became an important learning experience. I realized that being in a new cultural environment broadened my worldview and made me more adaptable. Immersing myself in the local customs, trying new foods, and participating in traditional celebrations helped me grow as an individual and deepened my appreciation for different ways of life.
I’ve also been fortunate enough to be able to explore beyond the classroom and travel throughout Europe. My favorite place has been Greece. It was absolutely beautiful, with stunning scenery and delicious food. Exploring Greece fulfilled a lifelong dream of mine and allowed me to experience its fascinating history and culture up close.
This journey has opened my eyes to how huge the world is and the beauty of different cultures. Meeting people from diverse backgrounds and exploring new places has taught me in ways I hadn’t imagined. I now feel more connected to the people around me and have gained a deeper respect for cultural differences.
