What did you most look forward to about transferring to Lake Forest College before you got here?

As a chemistry major, I was really looking forward to getting into the labs in the Lillard Science Center. The lab equipment at Lake Forest College is not typical for the undergraduate level, so I was immediately excited when I heard about the labs. Also, the campus is beautiful, especially in fall, and I couldn’t wait move in. Now, as a current student, I can say that my expectations were definitely met!

What factors in transfer options influenced your decision to commit to Lake Forest College?

At Lake Forest College, professors are truly there for the students. Even before I made my decision, I could tell that the faculty love to teach and help each student reach their potential. All of my professors are so kind, approachable, and willing to help. The small size of the College really facilitates an amazing student-professor connection that I would’ve missed if I had transferred to a larger school. I feel so much more confident in my classes since I am able to easily communicate and meet with professors.

What’s your favorite thing that has changed about your life since attending Lake Forest College?

Since transferring, I have met so many people. I love being surrounded by likeminded peers who also care about their education. Studying with other students helps me to stay motivated and push even harder. I do not alone in my classes and can always find classmates who are willing to have study sessions.

What’s your favorite spot on campus?

I am absolutely in love with Calvin Durand Hall, also known as the Wood Lounge! The hall is stunning and creates such a unique old-world atmosphere to study or chat with friends. I often spend nights studying there while listening to music. In between studying, I enjoy taking breaks to run with friends to the Pod or the Cyber Café.

What’s the best way to immerse yourself in campus life and meet new people?

For me, clubs are a must. I am on the executive board of SAACS (Student Affiliates of the American Chemical Society) and a member of Intervarsity. Joining clubs has allowed me to find others with shared interests and get involved.

What advice would you have for transfer students considering Lake Forest College?

Go to transfer events, in-person or virtual! Before deciding on Lake Forest College, I attended a transfer brunch, went on a tour with Harper College’s honors program, and met with a transfer admissions counselor. I was able to ask all my questions, voice my concerns, and get a feel for what Lake Forest College was like. Asking questions, no matter how small, was so important and helped me be confident in my decision.

What internship or experiential learning opportunities have you had while at Lake Forest College?

Each chemistry faculty member runs a research lab and students are encouraged to participate in undergraduate research. I am planning on doing research over the summer!
