Nuria Montiel (Mexico City, 1982) is recognized for her innovative use of printed words in public spaces, fostering the exchange of ideas for collective thought. She is an assistant professor at the Universidad de las Américas Puebla.

For over a decade, Nuria Montiel has worked to expand the artistic and political significance of printmaking in her home country of Mexico and abroad. Her innovative participatory project, the Imprenta móvil (Mobile Press) (2010–ongoing), has been an important part of this effort. In the early 2010s, Montiel began pushing a makeshift printing cart through the streets of Mexico City, asking questions and inviting passersby to create prints in this mobile workshop. In this artist talk, Montiel will share a set of her projects from the past decade, and ways in which making art in public space through collaborative dynamics can expand wisdom and imagination, fostering the potential for a new future without a trace of violence.
