What made you decide to become a History major at Lake Forest College?
A genuine love of history. I paired it with a Theatre major because at the time I thought I wanted to be a dramaturg for a Chicago theatre.
Is there a specific memory that sticks out to you from your time as a history student?
Professor Rosswurm’s History of Catholicism in America- Reading a book and writing an essay every single week is forever engrained in my mind! It was one of the toughest classes I had. He really pushed my abilities and allowed me to grow as a historian
What is something students considering majoring in History should know?
If you don’t love it, don’t do it. If you do love it - do it and do it well! Don’t take shortcuts.
Why is History relevant and important today?
My degree helped me refine my ability to research and synthesize information for the public.
What are you up to now? In what ways did being a history major help you after graduation?
I’m currently a backcountry interpretation ranger for Grand Canyon. I give ranger programs in the backcountry campsites in Grand Canyon. I also provide backcountry education and Emergency Medical Services to hikers and campers .
