Senior Accountant

Lake Forest College invites applications for the role of Senior Accountant. The Senior Accountant will play a crucial role in the college’s financial reporting and accounting function.  The scope of responsibilities includes, but will not be limited to; aiding in the monthly financial close activities, accounts payable, employee expense reimbursement process, and identifying opportunities for process enhancement and efficiency gains.

The successful candidate will possess analytical and problem-solving skills, is well organized, and can manage multiple priorities. 

Job Responsibilities

  • Ensures the integrity of accounting information by recording, verifying, and entering transactions.
  • Maintains and balances subsidiary accounts by verifying, allocating, posting, and reconciling transactions and resolving discrepancies.
  • Maintains general ledger by transferring subsidiary accounts, preparing a trial balance, and reconciling bank statements, credit card statements, and other financial accounts.
  • Prepares monthly reporting materials, including variance analysis for management.
  • Partners with other departments, including Human Resources on audits and other projects.
  • Provides backup for the payroll process.
  • Supports the annual financial statement audit process.
  • Manages student worker(s).
  • Handles special projects or ad-hoc requests

Qualifications

Requirements

  • BA/BS degree in Accounting or related field of study.
  • 3+ years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including strong proficiency with Excel
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Preferred qualifications:

  • CPA or MBA
  • Previous experience in higher education or similar field
  • Experience with grant accounting
