Public Safety Dispatcher (Part-Time)

Position Summary

Lake Forest College seeks a Dispatcher who will be scheduled to work every Saturday and Sunday from 7am-3pm. Since the Department of Public Safety operates 24 hours a day, every day of the year, this employee will be asked to work additional hours as needed to cover vacations and call-offs.

The Dispatcher duties include, but are not limited to; answering all incoming calls for routine and emergency services, inquiries, and general assistance matters; dispatching on-duty Public Safety personnel to respond to calls for service/assistance; recording all information into the Department’s various database records and log sheets (Dispatch Records, Vehicle Records, Key Control Records, Property Records, Fire System Logs, Access Control System operation, and all other logs as assigned; assists walk in traffic requests for routine and emergency services, inquiries, and general assistance matters; processing new and replacement ID cards; and processing new, replacement, and temporary parking permits.

The Dispatcher duties also include monitoring all local law enforcement and fire department frequencies and dispatching Officers and other emergency services when necessary;  monitoring critical fire alarms systems, access control systems, security alarm systems, and CCTV systems and dispatches Officers and other emergency services when necessary; handles roll-over calls not answered by an automated switchboard process; and initiates the campus-wide emergency notification system as necessary per policy.

Position Requirements

High School diploma or GED and minimum of two years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.  Previous related security/law enforcement experience is preferred.  Previous experience in campus public safety strongly preferred.  Sound judgment and excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills are essential.  Basic computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook is required.
