Associate Dean of Inclusive Excellence
The Associate Dean of Inclusive Excellence is a member of the Vice President for Campus Life’s senior team who works collaboratively across campus to champion a culture of inclusion, diversity, belonging, and equity for all members of the Lake Forest College community. Building on the work of the President’s Council for Inclusive Excellence the position is responsible to work directly with college leadership in Campus Life, Academic Affairs, and Human Resources to inform and shape policy and approach, across all areas of the College, support for our commitment to inclusive excellence. The Associate Dean will lead initiatives that center the voices and experiences of students, staff, faculty, and administration from historically underrepresented and marginalized communities. They will collaborate with campus stakeholders to develop, coordinate, and implement programs, trainings, and services, as needed, that foster a diverse, respectful, and thriving campus. The Associate Dean will promote effective processes and procedures that facilitate dialogue and strengthen a welcoming campus climate of respect, innovation, pluralism, and commitment to individual differences while at the same time a commitment to community.
- Collaboratively define vision for Lake Forest College Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) programs and initiatives. Build and develop the Office of Inclusive Excellence.
- Work closely with campus partners to assess and address policies, practices, and systemic needs to foster an inclusive environment that supports the retention and success of students, staff, and faculty across all identities and backgrounds.
- Foster collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders to advance the College’s DEIB goals and objectives. Enlist support for and assist College leaders, faculty, and staff with adoption and implementation of efforts.
- Define and lead comprehensive support and advocacy for historically underrepresented and marginalized groups, including but not limited to communities of color, first-generation students, LGBTQIA+ individuals, undocumented students, those with diverse faith traditions, and international populations.
- Collaborate with faculty, staff, and students to support, develop, and implement programming designed to celebrate cultural diversity, provide intercultural education, and advocate for students, faculty, and staff.
- Regularly assess diversity, inclusion, well-being, and belonging climate and learning outcomes and evaluate training efforts.
- Partner with Accessibility Services to enhance campus accessibility.
- Be an active member of the President’s Council on Inclusive Excellence and DEIB workstream of the College’s Implementation Task Force.
- Be a member of the Vice President for Campus Life’s executive team.
- Along with other senior staff in Campus Life, serve as a Dean on Call for campus crises, on a rotating schedule.
- Serve on other College committees, as assigned.
- Perform other duties, including special projects, as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- A master’s degree in higher education or related field, plus five (5) years of relevant experience in higher education.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Thorough knowledge of diversity and inclusion issues as they pertain to historically underrepresented and marginalized college students.
- Ability to assess internal DEIB needs of students, faculty, and staff.
- Demonstrated experience facilitating diversity training and fostering intergroup dialogue.
- Proven capability in strategic planning and implementation, with an emphasis on fostering inclusivity and belonging within an organizational context.
- Effective interpersonal communication, public speaking, and professional writing skills, including the ability to initiate and guide transformative dialogue, steer conversations, and maintain an institutional outlook.
- Strong interpersonal skills embodying empathy, openness, diplomacy and transparency and the ability to build relationships among all members of the campus community.
