Dr. William Hartman ’94 is part of a small coalition of doctor’s leading the charge on an experimental treatment that helps fight COVID-19.

In the treatment, a plasma transfusion from someone who recovered from coronavirus is given to a sick patient. In just a few weeks, more than 6,000 COVID-19 patients received convalescent plasma, and they are starting to see positive results.

This cutting-edge work and Dr. Hartman were featured on the national broadcast of CBS Sunday Morning. The treatment was also covered in the Wisconsin State Journal

According to the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, where Dr. Hartman is an assistant professor of anesthesiology, he has led a team that worked around the clock to start this clinical trial, an effort that normally takes months. The Food and Drug Administration approved the use of plasma to treat COVID-19 patients on April 3.
