Writing Track

Students on the writing track develop skills invaluable to creative artists. These same skills are absolutely vital to students who want to succeed in a fast-changing twenty-first century employment environment which rewards critical thinking, independent research, comprehension of complex texts, and above all the ability to express oneself with clarity and passion.

English majors on the writing track take courses in the writing of fiction, poetry, new media, and environmental writing, while complementing their writing focus with the study of classic and contemporary literature. They work closely with our accomplished faculty, all of whom are published poets, novelists, essayists, and memoirists.

Students may compete in several college writing contests and hone their skills as volunteers in the campus Writing Center. Students also get involved in the College’s many publishing and writing endeavors, including:

Lake Forest College Press/&NOW Books

Lake Forest College Press Lecture and Reading Series

Lake Forest Literary Festival

The Madeleine P. Plonsker Emerging Writer’s Residency Prize
