New trustees elected to Lake Forest College board

The Lake Forest College Board of Trustees elected three trustees during the May board meeting, each who will serve through 2018.

Joseph D. McCarthy of Princeton, New Jersey, is the President of Collins, a brand agency in New York City. After graduating from Lake Forest College with a degree in economics and psychology, McCarthy started his marketing career at Saatchi & Saatchi in New York where he quickly rose to senior vice president. He has gone on to become head of Global Advertising at Nike, Vice President of Worldwide Advertising and Marketing Communications at Johnson & Johnson, and CEO of Publicis. In 2001, he and his partners launched their own brand consulting group in Boston, McCarthy Mambro Bertino (MMB). The agency still bears his name. McCarthy is also a member of the board for VCU Brandcenter and Rebound Sports.

Marian H. Niles ’66 is returning to the board after a one-year absence. She earned her undergraduate degree in biology at the College and graduated with a Masters in Nursing from UCLA in 1978. Her professional history begins with her work as an RN in a Biafran refugee camp in Ivory Coast, West Africa from 1969-1970. From 1972-1975, she was the head nurse on the Adolescent Unit at the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, and from 1979-2002 she worked as a pediatric nurse practitioner in a private practice in West Los Angeles. Marian lives in Pacific Palisades, California. She is the founder and current board member of an early childhood education center in Santa Monica, and also serves on the board of the Los Angeles Master Chorale.

Sean W. Thomas ’81 of the Village of Lakewood, Illinois works for Aon Hewitt in Lincolnshire, Illinois, as partner, negotiations and contracts executive, a position he has held since 2006. He first joined Hewitt Associates after graduating with honors from Lake Forest College with a degree in economics. Sean is also affiliated with GRAM Charitable Foundation, First Congregational Church of Crystal Lake, Illinois, and Wake University Parent’s Council.
