Bolek, an English literature and Spanish double major who is pursuing a master of arts in teaching, is getting powerful career-level experience proofreading articles for Latin American Literature Today (LALT). An affiliate of the prestigious World Literature Today, LALT publishes outstanding works of contemporary Latin American literature, both in English and in Spanish.

“This position is taking my education at Lake Forest College to the next level because it combines all of my fields of study,” Bolek said. “The proofreading position with LALT has allowed me to develop my editing skills and learn about contemporary Latin American literature.” 

Bolek got her start as a research assistant to Assistant Professor of Spanish Denise Kripper this past summer. Kripper also serves as a translation editor for the journal.

“I believe that sustaining culture within education is extremely important, and I hope that I will be able to incorporate Latin American literature into curricula during my future as a teacher,” Bolek said.
