Chicago’s deep roots in Black and Indigenous history have been rendered largely invisible in the ubiquitous narratives of the city. Joseph is interested in another story—one that amplifies Black and Indigenous voices in order to better understand the history of our city and country.

Filling in the missing puzzle pieces, Joseph reveals and reclaims Chicago’s legacy as a multicultural metropolis built by a diverse group of organizers, educators, artists, and historians.
