Notes from Abroad: Matt in Ireland

Finance major and History minor Matt Lee ’20 is studying at University College Cork in Ireland
Hello! My name is Matt Lee, I am a Finance major and a History minor at LFC class of 2020. I am spending the Fall semester of my senior year in Cork Ireland at University College Cork (UCC). Here at UCC I am taking a mix of both business and history classes along with an Irish language class and a geography class. The learning environment is very different from LFC since the class rooms are larger and the grading is heavily dependent on final exams. Despite the adjustment I have enjoyed adapting to a learning environment that I am not used to. My favorite class so far has been my Irish language class. I am very surprised with the amount of Irish I have learned in my short time here and have been able to use it multiple times with Irish speakers.
The campus is quite large and offers a large variety of clubs and societies that are very welcoming and accommodating to all students. I am involved with the Canoe Club, Basketball Club, and the International Society. Everyone I have met on campus and through clubs has been extremely friendly and are really supportive in getting students involved. I was very surprised with how interactive and lively campus life is here at UCC.
As I am nearing the end of my time here I am extremely happy that I chose to study abroad and lucky to have found such an incredible school in UCC. I would like to thank all the donors to LFC scholarship foundations and Lake Forest College for making my experience in Ireland possible.
