Siobhan Moroney publishes new book with University of Illinois Press
Associate Professor of Politics and Chair of American Studies Siobhan Moroney published a new book, Chicagoland Dream Houses: How a Mid-Century Architecture Competition Reimagined the American Home.
The book delves into the history of the 1945 Chicagoland Prize Homes competition, which featured homes for WWII veterans and middle-class residents by mostly unknown architects.
According to the press, “Siobhan Moroney situates the competition in its time both socially and architecturally, analyzing floor plans and other materials to reveal how the designs reflected the expectations of middle-class families and the social norms that dictated their everyday lives and aspirations.”
Writer Ted C. Fishman described Moroney’s book as “engaging” in an article published in New City Lit on January 22, 2024.
Moroney’s book is available on January 23, 2024 through the University of Illinois Press.
